About Me

Recovering from Addiction to Prescription Medications

I never thought of myself as an addict, but I did end up addicted to anti-anxiety medication after developing Generalized Anxiety Disorder. At some point, the medicine stopped being a way to deal with the nervousness and panic attacks, and became something my body craved. I knew that I needed help fast. Fortunately, a local drug rehab program includes support for people like me. They helped me wean off the medication, use methods like massage therapy to help my nerves heal, and even provided ongoing counseling for our family. I don't know how I would have made it without their help. If you suspect that your medication has crossed the line from being helpful to hurtful, take heart. Let me tell you about my journey out of addiction and back to wholeness.

Assessing Whether Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy Is An Option For You

by Valerie Stevens

There are many health problems that individuals could experience that will impact their lymphatic system. Unfortunately, this can be a very problematic and painful problem for patients to experience, and it should be no surprise that individuals will often look to a variety of sources for potential relief. Depending on your particular condition, lymphatic drainage massage therapy can be an important step in helping to alleviate these issues.

Assumption: Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy Provides Little Benefit

It can be a common assumption for individuals to fail to realize that there are massage techniques specifically designed to help alleviate lymphatic swelling and blockages. Rather, individuals will often be under the impression that massage is only for relaxation and pampering. However, lymphatic drainage massage therapy is designed to help facilitate drainage from the lymphatic nodes so that swelling and other side effects of blockages can be reduced.

Assumption: Lymphatic Drainage Massage Sessions Will Be Unpleasant Or Even Painful

Some individuals that would otherwise benefit from lymphatic drainage massage therapy may fail to utilize this option due to assuming that it will always be extremely uncomfortable and painful. While a person's lymph nodes can be fairly sensitive, these massage techniques are designed to be gentle while still encouraging better drainage. During the course of the lymphatic drainage massage therapy session, a patient may feel some pressure on their lymph nodes, but this should not rise to the level of pain or discomfort. In fact, it is common for patients to experience a considerable amount of relief following this type of massage session.

Assumption: The Clothing You Wear Will Have Little Impact On The Results Of The Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The clothing that you wear can be an underappreciated aspect of maximizing the results that you get from your lymphatic massage therapy sessions. In particular, patients will want to make sure that they are wearing loose clothing both during and after this session. During the session, the loose clothing can help the massage therapist to reach the various lymph nodes in the body so that they can be massaged and worked. Following this session, loose clothing can help to facilitate drainage from the lymph nodes.

Choosing to wear tight-fitting clothing after this massage session can limit the ability of the lymph nodes to drain in the hours after this session, which can severely reduce the quality of results that a patient experiences. If wearing loose clothing may not be compatible with your work setting or dress code, you may want to schedule these massage sessions at the end of the day or on your days off.
