About Me

Recovering from Addiction to Prescription Medications

I never thought of myself as an addict, but I did end up addicted to anti-anxiety medication after developing Generalized Anxiety Disorder. At some point, the medicine stopped being a way to deal with the nervousness and panic attacks, and became something my body craved. I knew that I needed help fast. Fortunately, a local drug rehab program includes support for people like me. They helped me wean off the medication, use methods like massage therapy to help my nerves heal, and even provided ongoing counseling for our family. I don't know how I would have made it without their help. If you suspect that your medication has crossed the line from being helpful to hurtful, take heart. Let me tell you about my journey out of addiction and back to wholeness.

How Ocular Steroids Help With Chronic Eye Inflammation Issues

by Valerie Stevens

Vision troubles can vary in many different ways and may cause a surprising array of different concerns. For example, troubles with various types of blood vessels and muscles may cause persistent inflammation that needs to be controlled immediately. Thankfully, high-quality ocular steroids can provide relief from many types of inflammation, particularly after a surgery for vision troubles or whenever chronic inflammation impacts a person's vision unexpectedly.

Chronic Inflammation is a Serious Eye Problem

When the eye suffers from chronic inflammation, there may be many underlying issues causing this problem. Some of the most common of these conditions can cause the eye to remain persistently or chronically inflamed, causing vision troubles and potentially even damaging some structures of the eye in the process. These concerns must be taken seriously to help minimize the risk of vision loss from excessive pressure caused by inflamed eyes.

There are many different treatment options that may help with this problem, including various types of anti-inflammatory creams and various medication options. However, ocular (or ophthalmic) steroids have become one of the more regularly prescribed methods for handling this issue. These steroids are designed to help manage many different inflammation problems with minimum difficulty and with many benefits.

How Ocular Steroids May Help

Ocular steroids come in many different forms, including various types of drops and gels, that are designed to decrease inflammation caused by different types of conditions. When applied properly, they help to stimulate bodily healing, decrease redness and inflammation, and help stave off many of the more long-term symptoms that may worsen inflammation, such as some types of glaucoma-related eye conditions.

This care option is also commonly used after a surgery, which may be necessary to manage some inflammation types. Thankfully, most people prescribed these steroids can use them without help from a doctor, such as applying eye drops or rubbing gels around the muscles near the eye. In this way, the steroids can be applied directly to the affected area with minimum difficulty or struggle.

As a result, it is important for those with chronically inflamed eyes to talk to their optometrist or ophthalmologist to learn more about this care option. They can sort through the different steroid options available on the market and choose one that suits a person's needs as much as possible. If necessary, treatment methods may need to be adjusted to provide short- and long-term relief from this issue.
