About Me

Recovering from Addiction to Prescription Medications

I never thought of myself as an addict, but I did end up addicted to anti-anxiety medication after developing Generalized Anxiety Disorder. At some point, the medicine stopped being a way to deal with the nervousness and panic attacks, and became something my body craved. I knew that I needed help fast. Fortunately, a local drug rehab program includes support for people like me. They helped me wean off the medication, use methods like massage therapy to help my nerves heal, and even provided ongoing counseling for our family. I don't know how I would have made it without their help. If you suspect that your medication has crossed the line from being helpful to hurtful, take heart. Let me tell you about my journey out of addiction and back to wholeness.

Do You Need Depression Therapy Or Grief Therapy?

by Valerie Stevens

Depression is a complex mental health condition. It results in a variety of symptoms, including sadness, listlessness, and difficulty waking up. People may not even realize that they are depressed, but the feeling can become oppressive and limiting.

Are you unsure if you are experiencing grief or depression? These are a few signs you may need depressive therapy services rather than grief therapeutic techniques.

Grief Feels Like a Roller Coaster; Depression May Feel Constant

By no means is this a rule for each case, but it is something to think about. Do the emotions you feel take you up and down, or are you steadily feeling down? People experiencing grief can occasionally feel joy during specific moments that call for it, and they can recall fond memories.

Depression can feel different, even more oppressive at times. You may think that you will never be happy again. Some people experience a feeling of fog that influences their mindset.

Feelings of Hopelessness & Worthlessness

Depression can take a toll on your self-esteem in a way that grief might not. You may feel bad about yourself as if you are not doing something right. You might feel worthless as if nothing you do means anything. You may also feel like there is no hope and that you can't do anything right.

These feelings can keep you from achieving your goals, even if your goals for the day are relatively minimal. You might feel like you can't do things like shower or prepare meals, for example.

You Move & Speak Slowly

Do you feel like you are moving and speaking slowly? Do you feel like the world is just passing you by? You might be experiencing depression, which prompts you to feel as if you are moving at a slower pace than others you know for a longer period of time.

You Feel Unable to Function in Some Way

Grief can make you struggle to function in the immediacy of loss, but you should be able to complete tasks and practice self-care as time goes on. When depression takes hold, this may not be the case. The feeling of being unable to function may sit with you for a long period of time.

Depression Therapy Can Help

If you are living with depression, it is normal to feel confused about your symptoms. Many people do not realize they are depressed, but attending therapy sessions can be helpful. Make an appointment with a therapist today to learn more about your therapy options. Likewise, contact a depression therapy service for more information.
