Recovering from Addiction to Prescription Medications

I never thought of myself as an addict, but I did end up addicted to anti-anxiety medication after developing Generalized Anxiety Disorder. At some point, the medicine stopped being a way to deal with the nervousness and panic attacks, and became something my body craved. I knew that I needed help fast. Fortunately, a local drug rehab program includes support for people like me. They helped me wean off the medication, use methods like massage therapy to help my nerves heal, and even provided ongoing counseling for our family. I don't know how I would have made it without their help. If you suspect that your medication has crossed the line from being helpful to hurtful, take heart. Let me tell you about my journey out of addiction and back to wholeness.

Seeking Lower Back Pain Treatment From A Chiropractor

by Valerie Stevens

Lower back pain can become severe to the extent of preventing you from being able to work. The reason why is because many responsibilities that are required for working most jobs involve moving the back in some manner. For example, even a career that involves sitting in a chair to take customer services calls involves the use of the back at some point. If you are currently dealing with lower back pain, a chiropractor might be an ideal specialist to go to for treatment. This article provides a general overview of what might take place if you seek lower back pain treatment from a chiropractor.

Consult with You About Your Back Problems

When a new patient seeks assistance from a chiropractor, a consultation is required to discuss the problem of concern. You will be asked to explain the severity of back pain that you have been experiencing. The chiropractor will also want you to describe where the pain is located in your back. The reason why is because certain areas of the back might need to undergo a specific type of treatment for satisfactory results. Your explanation will also help with determining if the pain involves something being wrong with your spine.

Thoroughly Review an X-Ray of Your Back

It is highly likely that a chiropractor will not begin treating your back pain until he or she knows that nothing serious is wrong. The treatment methods used by a chiropractor might not be ideal if there is any serious damage to your spine. For example, a spinal fracture might require undergoing surgery with help from a back specialist. Expect your chiropractor to request an x-ray of your back. It is also possible that the chiropractor will perform the x-ray, but it depends on his or her certifications.

Perform Natural Treatment Methods for Lower Back Pain

Chiropractic mobilization is one of the natural treatment methods that might be used to treat your back pain. The method involves a chiropractor manipulating the muscles that are in the lower area of your back. The joints in that area will also be manipulated. Another common method that can bring positive results for treating lower back pain is called spinal manipulation. You might be able to move your back a lot easier and without severe pain by undergoing spinal manipulation, as the procedure involves arm thrusts that can decrease the amount of pressure that is placed on specific nerves.
