I never thought of myself as an addict, but I did end up addicted to anti-anxiety medication after developing Generalized Anxiety Disorder. At some point, the medicine stopped being a way to deal with the nervousness and panic attacks, and became something my body craved. I knew that I needed help fast. Dehydration shows first in your skin, so if your skin is dry and you aren't taking in much fluid, that's a good place to start to correct it. The 8 x 8 rule to drink eight 8-oz. glasses of fluid a day is easy to remember; however, exercise, outdoor temperatures and certain health conditions also influence your fluid requirements. For example, it's recommended that breast-feeding mothers consume at least 13 cups or 3.1 liters of fluids each day.

Foods that contain healthy fats and anti-oxidants, such as those listed below, are especially good for your skin.

  • Avocado is an alkalizing food full of vitamin E and healthy fats
  • Orange and yellow fruits and vegetables contain beta-carotene, a strong anti-oxidant, as well as vitamin A
